Miasma
Idea that "bad air" causes disease when someone breathes it it.

Physicians carried posies or oranges when dealing with patients
During black death, myrrh and incense were burned so the smoke or scent would fill the room and stop bad air from bringing diseases
Four humours
Idea that body is made up of four fluids
Black bile
Phlegm
Blood
Yellow bile
If one is imbalanced, it would cause poor health
Two methods of balancing
Purging
Getting rid of other fluids, by giving patients laxatives and excreting
Bloodletting
If someone had too much blood inside them, doctors would take blood by making a small cut or using blood-sucking leeches
God
Many believed that disease was a punishment from the lord
Many asked for forgiveness
Flagellance
Used to whip themselves on the back in public as a punishment asking for forgiveness
