- The teacher ask a question:" How can we make a torch to be able to see in the dark with? Instruct learners to make a torch using recycled materials like toilet rolls, foil and a battery tea light.

Exploring shadows
Concept
- Shadows form when an object blocks light and they change shape or size when the object moves.
Inquiry-based learning activity
- Shadow puppet investigation. Learners use a torch and a cut-out shapes to make shadows on a sheet. They move the torch to see how the shadows changes.

Concept
- people do different things at night like sleeping, some is working, travelling and depending on light and time

- Day and night picture sort. They sort through pictures representing what people do during the day and during the night.

- Safety walk role-play. Teacher sets up the classroom with two streets. The streets gets made with chairs. One is dark and the other has street lights, which gets made with torches . Which street would be safer to walk in.

- teacher ask what changes when goes from light to dark (day - night). Learners compare light and dark by turning the lights off and on, then look at pictures to say which shows day and which shows night. They show if it is day or night

- The moon and stars are visible at night, and the moon changes shape over time

- Night sky Observation Chart
Learners go outside at night and check what they see and make a drawing on what they observe.
