Why has society got faith in science? - achievements in medicine have eradicated many once fatal diseases.
Why has society's faith in science started to fail?- pollution, global heating, weapons of mass destruction
What is the cognitive power of science? -science enables us to explain, predict and control the world in a way that non-scientific beliefs systems can't do.
Little green men- Wooglar argues scientists are engaged in the same process of 'making sense' or interpreting the world as everyone else. When confronted by evidence, they have to decide what it means. They do so by devising and applying theories or explanations, but they have to persuade others to accept their interpretation.
-e.g. in the case of discovering pulsars, scientists annotated patterns shown on their printouts as LGM (aliens). Scientific community didn't like this as unacceptable interpretation (as they were saying aliens are real).
