METAL TYPES
Non-Ferrous Metals
Aluminium — A lightweight, corrosion-resistant metal used for aircraft, drinks cans and window frames.
-
-
-
Gold — A corrosion-resistant precious metal used for jewellery and high-quality electrical contacts.
Titanium — A very strong and lightweight metal with excellent corrosion resistance used in aircraft and medical implants.
-
Ferrous Metals
Low Carbon Steel — A cheap, tough and easily shaped steel used for car bodies, nails and construction.
Stainless Steel — A corrosion-resistant and durable steel used for cutlery, sinks and medical equipment.
High Speed Steel (HSS) — A very hard and heat-resistant steel used for cutting tools and drill bits.
Medium Carbon Steel — A stronger and harder steel than low carbon steel used for gears, axles and tools.
Cast Iron — A hard but brittle metal with excellent compression strength used for engine blocks and manhole covers.
Non-Ferrous Alloys
Bronze — A hard and corrosion-resistant alloy of copper and tin used for bearings, statues and medals.
Brass — A gold-coloured alloy of copper and zinc used for musical instruments, fittings and ornaments.

Ferrous Alloys
Stainless Steel — A strong iron alloy containing chromium that resists rust and is used for kitchenware and surgical tools.
Die Steel (Tool Steel) — A very hard and wear-resistant alloy used for cutting tools, dies and moulds.
