Tariffs

Northern States supported Tariffs because it protected there own industries and pushed customers to be more likely to buy American-made products.
Southern states opposed Tariffs because they didn't want to pay higher prices for products and feared losing customers like Great Britain.

States' Rights
The purpose of the federal government was to unite, protect, and defend the union as a whole instead of individual states
The 10th amendment states that any other power not given to the government goes to the states and the people of the United States.
The Fugitive Slave Act upset Northern abolitionists because it forced them to participate in slavery which they really hated and went against they're ideals.

Slavery
A product is considered a "cash crop" when produced on a big farm and commercially sold in large numbers.
Enslaved people were discriminated against by having no legal rights, being considered as property, and having no freedom at all.
Abolitionists were an extension of the church because the beliefs of the church could be carried onto these groups.

Sectionalism
The geographical difference between the North and the South created divisions in the new nation because geography of the two sides decided how they made money. This lead to the North having more industries and the South having more farms showing the division between the sides.
New states caused regional divisions because the South wanted the new state to become a slave state whereas the the North wanted them to be free states.
Sectionalism is where two groups that are related two each other having divisions in ideology and different aspects.

Industry and Agriculture
The Northern workforce was made up of people who worked at there own free-will. They hired immigrants paying them cheap wages.
The Southern workforce was made up of mostly slaves who were given little if any rights. They could not decide anything, were not payed, and were mistreated by there bosses/owners
The North and the South had big differences in climate like the North was more cold, whereas the South was more warm and humid. The North had long winters and a bad climate for farming, but the South had hot summers and a perfect climate for farming

Popular sovereignty mean the people in the area(the majority) could decide a certain law for that specific region.
Lincoln's thoughts on the expansion of slavery was that it was that slavery was fine but the expansion of it was wrong. He hoped that slavery died on it's own.

Uncle Tom's Cabin
The Fugitive Slave Act was where a person from the North must assist or get out of the way in the capture of slaves, leading to a lot of hate for the law from the North.
The result of the popularity in Stowe's novel caused the Entire North to no longer stand and ignore the issues of slavery.
Southerners were upset about the novel because they thought it represented them and their Morales negatively.
