Chapter 1: Leadership
leaders and followers both matter
i learned that leadership is not just one person doing everything and sometimes you lead and sometimes you follow and both roles are important (Guthrie et al., 2021)
anyone can be a leader :
i understand that anyone can be a leader even without a position and small actions like helping others can be leadership (Guthrie et al., 2021)
my view of leadership changed
i learned that my idea of leadership changed because i used to think it was something people are born with but now i think it is something you build over time (Guthrie et al., 2021)
leadership is not always loud
i understand that leadership does not have to be loud and someone can lead by listening helping and staying calm (Guthrie et al., 2021)
leadership is not just being in charge
i learned that leadership is not just being in charge but about people working together and supporting each other to reach a goal (Guthrie et al., 2021)
Chapter 2: Identity
being an international student
i understand that being an international student is a big part of my identity and moving to a new country made me more aware of differences and how i fit into a new environment (Guthrie et al., 2021)
understanding others more
i learned that because of my experiences i understand that everyone has their own struggles and this made me want to be more aware and respectful of other people and their backgrounds (Guthrie et al., 2021)
language challenges
i struggle with language because sometimes i know what i want to say but cannot say it clearly in english which is frustrating especially in class (Guthrie et al., 2021)
identity has many parts
i understand that identity is not just one thing and it is made up of different parts like culture language and background that shape who a person is (Guthrie et al., 2021)
society shapes identity
i learned that identity is not only personal but also shaped by society and how we grow up which affects how we see ourselves and others (Guthrie et al., 2021)
Chapter 3: Capacity
capacity is skills and ability
i understand that capacity is about what you can do in leadership situations including skills knowledge and how you handle challenges and it grows with experience (Guthrie et al., 2021)
leadership skills can be learned
i learned that leadership skills are not something you are just born with and they can be developed over time which changed how i think about my abilities (Guthrie et al., 2021)
my strengths
i am good at being independent and not giving up easily because i have learned how to handle things on my own (Guthrie et al., 2021)
want to improve communication
i want to improve my communication by speaking more and not overthinking everything even though i know it will take time (Guthrie et al., 2021)
my challenges
i struggle with communication because i sometimes have difficulty speaking confidently and expressing my ideas clearly (Guthrie et al., 2021)
Chapter 4: Efficacy
belief affects actions
i learned that if you do not believe in yourself you are less likely to try and belief affects the actions you take (Guthrie et al., 2021)
efficacy means believing in yourself
i understand that efficacy means believing in your ability to do something and trusting yourself to use your skills (Guthrie et al., 2021)
confidence comes from experience
i learned that confidence comes after trying things and gaining experience not before (Guthrie et al., 2021)
self doubt holds me back
i struggle with self doubt because sometimes i feel like i am not as capable as others which stops me from speaking up (Guthrie et al., 2021)
want to trust myself more
i want to improve by trusting myself more and not letting doubt control my decisions (Guthrie et al., 2021)
Chapter 5: Engagement
everything is connected
i understand that identity capacity and efficacy are all connected and they work together to affect how someone grows as a leader (Guthrie et al., 2021)
leadership keeps growing
i learned that leadership is not something you finish learning and it keeps developing over time with new experiences (Guthrie et al., 2021)
leadership is not easy
i understand that leadership can be challenging and stressful and it is not always simple like i thought before (Guthrie et al., 2021)
growth can be uncomfortable
i learned that growth can feel uncomfortable sometimes but that discomfort is part of improving (Guthrie et al., 2021)
my goal moving forward
i want to improve by continuing to learn from my experiences and keep growing over time even if progress is slow (Guthrie et al., 2021)
