Maastricht Treaty
1992
Established the modern European Union. It created the framework for the single euro currency, introduced EU citizenship, and established a three-pillar structure covering economic, foreign policy, and legal cooperation between 12 member states
Treaty of Ascension
1972
PM Heath, provided for the UK to join the European Economic Community. The European Communities Act was legislated for the for the UK to join the EEC, it required all European laws to be incorporated into UK domestic law.
Treaty of Nice
2001
Aim to reform the institutional structure of the European Union to withstand the challenges linked to the subsequent accession of ten Central and Eastern European countries as well as Cyprus and Malta.
Post-Brexit

Aims to mend post-Brexit relations through a new strategic partnership, focusing on a security/defence pact, a 12-year fisheries access deal until 2038, and a "Common Understanding" for closer cooperation on trade, energy, and youth mobility.

What are treaties?
The UK government negotiates and signs treaties (Parliament has nor formal role) However, many treaties require acts of Parliament to authorise spending, or changing key laws.
For example the Treaty of Union (1707) was negotiated by Scottish and English governments but the Acts of Union (1707) was passed by Scottish and English parliaments
