Motion
Units
Speed
Centimetres per second (cm/s)
metres per second (m/s)
Distance
Centimetres (cm)
x100
Metres (m)
x1000
Kilometres (km)
Time
Seconds (s)
x60
minutes (min)
x60
Hour (h)
Conversion Equation
To find speed:
Speed = Distance ÷ Time
To find distance:
Distance = Speed x time
To find time:
Time = Distance ÷ speed
Distance-Time Graphs
Steeper the line the faster the object is moving, if it is flat then the object is still.
Average speed is the total distance divided by the total time.
Magnetism
Poles
There are two magnetic poles;
North
South
Opposite charges attract and the same poles repel
Magnetic field diagrams
The lines on a magnetic field line diagram always point to the south pole
Method to plot the field lines.
Place a bar magnet on paper, mark its outline, and place the compass near a pole. Mark dots at the tip and tail of the needle, move the compass so that the tail (back end) of the needle is perfectly in line with the dot you just made., and connect the dots to visualize the lines from North to South.
