Educator role modelling
Mealtimes should be enjoyed and can be used to develop positive relationships and enhance social interaction between children and educators
during mealtimes, educators should sit at a table with a small group of children to supervise them and have interactions
this allows educators to provide an appropriate role modelling for children as well as to meet children's individual needs, providing a more home-like environment
-
where possible, sit and eat with the children and be a positive role model

What are mealtimes: mealtimes in Early Childhood Education (ECE) are planned, positive and consistent daily routines that services and childcare centres follow. This goes beyond just feeding children; it helps babies/toddlers to build trustful relationships and interactions with educators and caregivers and help to extend and enhance their language development skills.
progressive mealtimes: when you plan meals to take place over a set time frame (eg: an hour). This allows children to choose when they are ready and want to join in and eat with their other peers/friends
benefits of mealtimes:
mealtimes allow babies/toddlers to build trust and strong attachments and relationships with their educators/caregivers
-
this is a social activity/time and so language development can be extended through interaction between babies/toddlers and educators/caregivers
