Solutions
solution 1 - switch to a modern windows operating system and implement a wireless network and port the POS application
Pros: prevents worries about future technical problems from the old os, allowing for expansion. Increases effeciency greatly, espeically with the wireless network. Existing IT staff are likely to be more familiar with a windows system than a LInux system
Cons: probably more expensive than something like Linux. Will require investment to get the new machines and to port the POS application
Comparison to other solutions: Compared to doing nothing, it gets the problem out of the way and provides some future-proofing. Compared to doing a linux system, it costs more, but will likely be smoother for IT and other employees
Is this feasible - yes, Zara has the resources to do this. It could be done incrementally so that operations can continue with some of the older machines as it is completed
Evidence - Zara is the only client from the vendor using MSDOS, so it's clearly time to upgrade. The financial stats of Zara prove they have the capital to do the upgrade. Exhibit 13 showing how windows is more expensive than linux but less expensive than Unix
