Key Moments
A key moment in A Doll's House is when Krogstad threatens Nora with blackmail. He uses her secret loan to control her, knowing that if her secret is exposed, it will ruin her reputation and social standing. Nora is terrified not just of the law, but of the shame and the loss of her social status this would bring, showing how powerful judgment is in the play. She seriously considers trying to end her own life to escape consequences
Another important key moment in the play by Henrik Ibsen is when Torvald reads Krogstad's letter. Instead of caring for Nora, he panics about his reputation and how society will judge him. This shows that respectability matters more to him than love, this leads to Nora realize that their marriage is based on apperances. So at the end of the play Nora leaves Torvald because she feels like she is getting treated like a doll. Its shocking to see that Nora leaves her children too showing that she is willing to take the damage to her reputation because it only has served her husband.
Another key moment in A Doll's House is when Torvald insists Nora perform the tarantella at the party. He is focused on how she appears in front of others, wanting her to look attractive and graceful to maintain their respectable image. This shows how much he values outward appearance and reputation over Nora’s real feelings.
