Altered Elimination, Related to enlarged prostate - Coggle Diagram
Altered Elimination
Urinary Dysfunction
Alterations of motility
Pyelonephritis
Urinary stasis promoting bacterial growth
Increased fluid intake and antibiotics to rid infection
Tubular necrosis
Casts and cellular debris are shed into tubular lumen
Hydration and increased blood pressure may correct
Neuromuscular function
Urinary retention
Catheterizaiton to remove urine
Medications to assist with urinary flow such as tamsulosin
Urinary incontinence
Ditropan to relax the bladder muscles and decrease incontinence
Bladder training and voiding schedules
Patency
Obstruction of urinary flow
Nephrolithiasis or kidney stones
Increased fluid intake, lithotripsy
Hydroureter from obstruction leading to fluid accumulation
Hydronephrosis
Infection, urosepsis, potential renal failure
Stent placement in ureter to alleviate obstructed flow
Perfusion
Arterial stenosis in renal artery
Angiogram and stenting may fix
Ischemia/Infarction of kidneys
May be related to enhanced perfusion causing stress on the organ system
Bowel Dysfunction
Motility
Decreased motility. Harder stools and promotion of wastes back into circulation.
Increase water or fluid intake. May benefit from stool softeners or increased fiber in diet
Increased motility. Impaired absorption of water and nutrients. Looser stools and dehydration
Medications such as imodium may slow motility
Influenced by intestinal flora as certain bacteria promote motility and others inhibit motility.
Neuromuscular function
Neural signal alteration or muscle responsiveness may create this.
Traumas of the spine or abdominal surgeries may affect propulsive activity.
Use of narcotics may alter neural pathways and slow elimination
Emotional stress triggers alterations in bowel movement. Sedentary lifestyle as well
Exercising may increase peristalsis and promote motility
Patency
Obstruction may occur from tumors, impacted feces, or polyps.
Fecal decompaction to remove feces. Colonoscopy may identify troublesome polyps
Gas accumulation may cause pain and distention of the bowels
Anti-gas medications such as simethicone may relieve gas pains and bloating
Impairment of venous return leads to edema. May lead to bowel perforation and promote sepsis.
