Types of behavior.
innate instinct: a behavior built into the brain, exhibited from birth. Ex. grasp reflex of human infant.
fixed action pattern: stimuli that brings out a series of actions until completion. It must have a specific stimulus. Ex Goose pulling vaguely egg shaped and colored thing into nest.
imprinting: a behavior that forms at a critical point in life. it cannot be formed after this period. Ex. Ducklings imprinting on the first thing they see as their mother.
associative learning (classical conditioning): when a stimulus is associated with a different stimulus, combining the two together for a behavior. Ex. Pavlov's dogs with the sound of a bell stimulating salivating.
operant conditioning: trial and error conditioning. Give an organism a problem to solve and over time and errors they figure out the answer. Created by BF Skinner.

observational learning: watching another organism and then mimicking the action. Ex. octipi opening bottles.
