the poster is illustrated style its almost like a painted picture and this is very unconventional for modern day adverts, but very conventional for the time period that this advert was made in
the style of the advert reflects it historical context, while it also has a lot of white space, this draws more attention to the small print description of the sweets and chocolates
the advert includes alot of small print for the items, now this was very conventional for the time but it also could show that in the 1950s chocolate, toffees, and strawberries may have been seen as luxury items at the time
they use serif font which is fancy edges which connotes class and luxury. They use this to make the product look really good and great and that's why this is used. It could also have been used as a intertextual reference as this style is consistent in all other quality street ads, showing their branding
the use of alliteration makes the wording of the slogan (and copy) memorable and emphasizes the taste and variety in the tin as it suggests the customer will have a lot of choice
The phrase "delicious dilemma" could be seen to refer to the women as well as the sweets. Perhaps connoting that the chocolates will make you more attractive people if you buy them.
the word "Mackintosh's" connotes that this is a family made product, perhaps with tradition. the name sounds British / Scottish so signifies that the product is British too. Because of the war people might have wanted to celebrate their own foods and this appeals to this.
the gold frame is positioned behind the man's head, which may seem like a halo, and therefore makes him seem powerful and almost god-like
The Position of the tin in his lap, along with he women's hands, makes the product seem seductive and attractive
miss sweetly and major quality in the top coming out the frame like they are usually. this makes them seem as though they were kind of coming alive and looking down at the chocolates with desire and excitements.
The entire advert is a giant intertextual reference as it is similar to all of the other adverts that quality street have made. This makes the reader/ looking in, seem more familiar and traditional brand and product that they can be comfortable with
The man in this seems like a typical HERO (props). The suit, the tie, the somewhat halo above his head.
representation
in the advert, the man seems like a hero or a conventional man of the time. The suit and tie signify that he is professional, sophisticated, and possibility wealthy. As well as his position in the centre with the other characters pointing towards him, signify that he is important.
this is a typical representation of men within the media both in the 1950s and also in modern media as well. However it definitely relects the historical context because of the idea that men were the ones who went out to work and were seen as very important and powerfull particulary in comparison to women.
major quality is in a old regency era white, gold, and red military uniform.
this soldiers outfit represents men as being capable of physical activity (fighting) . This shows men as being strong and powerful which is typical
The women in this advert are shown in less sexual more of the time period, dresses. Now these dresses don't look very professional
Because they don't look professional and instead the dresses are actually emphasising their femininity it shows the contexts of the time and is very conventional for this time period
