Biological family is almost completely absent
Dorian - instead of having a family, he is left to be influenced by those around him - Basil and Henry. Because of this, he is easily manipulated, listening to Henry because of the intoxicating allure of the hedonistic pleasures he promises
Vane family - the Vane family, although destitute, is very close. However, because of their financial situation, this leads to Mrs Vane focussing too much on Sybil's acting, which is what causes Dorian's attraction, leading to her suicide.
Henry and his Wife's marriage is one of lies and secrecy - when talking with Basil he cheerfully explains how him and wife have little interaction, and their marriage is for show

Family is central to the plot -

Sethe - her motivation for anything is solely focussed on protecting her family from slavery
Denver - the crushing love from Sethe defines her existence, leaving her unable to interact with the outside world
Family shapes their identities, as they try to reclaim that in the face of racism
Community as family - One of the key themes in beloved is the role community plays in shaping their lives, both the inital isolation after the infanticide, and at the end when the women come together to exorcise Beloved
