chapter 5 revision
cell mediated response
- A phagocyte or body cell has become an antigen presenting cell displaying the pathogen's antigens on its cell surface membrane
- A T helper cell or T cytotoxic cells (with receptors complementary to the pathogens antigen) bind to the antigen. clonal selection
- this triggers the T lymphocytes to divide by mitosis. t cytotoxic, t helper t memory clonal expansion
- t helper cells release chemicals cytokines that stimulate B L to divide into plasma cells which release antibodies & attracts phagocytes to the area
- t-cytotoxic cells kill infected cells by releasing a protein- perforin that 'punch' holes in the cell's cell surface membrane
phagocytosis
- phagocyte is attracted by a substance recognises antigen
- pathogen engulfed/ ingestion
-
- -> fuses and joins with lysosome

immunity
the ability of the immune system to over come and destroy a specific type of pathogen before it ause harm
recognising body as self
generally benefical as destroyes potentially harmful cells, organisms ans molecules
