Types of Cement:
Type GB - Contains more than 5% fly-ash and/or slag, or up to 10% silica fume. It has a slower strength development rate than Type Gp, making it ideal for mass concrete construction.
Type HE - Gains strength very rapidly in the first few days due to finer grinding (e.g., early removal of formwork, concrete repairs, and construction in cold weather)
Type GP - Most common type for standard concrete where no special conditions are required. It can contain up to 5% mineral additions (fly-ash or slag)
Type LH - Characterized by a slow rate of strength development and low heat of hydration (e.g., mass concrete (e.g., dams) thick structural elements, and hot weather concreting to prevent thermal cracking

Concrete Aggregates

Aggregate
It consists of stone (coarse) and sand (fine), make up 60% to 70% of concrete volume and must be strong, stable, and clean.
Material Types: In NZ, greywacke is the main aggregate source, derived from river beds (rounded) or quarries (crushed)
Aggregate Shape: Ideals particles are spherical (rounded) for gravel and cubical for crushed stone to ensure good workability; flat or elongated particles should be avoided
