The Blitz
During the period known as the blitz,towns and cities thought Britain were bombed
People need to spend night in air-raid shelters
Many volunteered as Civil Defence workers
Civilians had to maintain a 'black out' at night
Thus streetlights were not lit and cars had to drive without lights,they were many accidents.
The Lives of Women
Conscription was introduced
Unmarried women were conscripted
Women were now given the opportuny to do a wide range of jobs
New freedoms and the chance to learn new skills
Work at home -in farms and factories- had to be done by women
Evacuation
Evacuated children and young mothersfrom the big cities to safer parts of the country
many of the host families were richer,middle-or upper-class people,so different groups of people were put together for the first time
The Goverment and Welfare
Health care was improved
Nurseries were set up
Special food rations and vitamins for young children and mothers
Rationing
Caused a major change in people
families are given books of ration stamps
The board of Trade issued recipes showingpeople how to make healthy meals using food that was available
Clothes were rationed from 1941,encouraged people to save by mending their own clothes
Grow as much as their own food as possible and keep their own animals

PROPAGANDA
Propaganda was used to encourage people to join the voluntary war effort
to warn people of the dangers of 'careless talk'
Encourage people to save for the war effort and live more carefully without wasting food or materials
