During the period known as the blitz,towns and cities throughout Britain were bombed.
People had to spend nights in air-raid shelters.
Many volunteered as Civil Defence workers
civilians had to maintain a blackout at night.
streetlihgts were not lit and cars had to drve without lights

Evacuation
The governement evacuated children and young mothers from the big citiies to safer parts of the country.
many of the host families were richer,midle-or upper-class people

the transport system became a public service
