Reflection: Digestion determines whether nutrients from food can actually be used by the body. After food intake. Mechanical and chemical digestion break macronutrients into smaller molecules that can be absorbed in the small intestine. Villi and microvilli increase the surface area, so nutrients move through portal circulation while lipids are transported through the lymphatic system in chylomicrons. These nutrients are then delivered to cells where they support metabolism,structure,and fewer nutrients are absorbed,which can reduce energy production and normal body funcations
