What is an insect?
An insect has 6 legs, antenna, three body parts and an exoskeleton
Spiders and scoprions are not insects (They have 8 legs - they are arachnids)
How can insects help us?
Bees = Pollination ; Ants = help clean the environment ; Ladybugs = eat pests, Earthworms = help airate the soil and aid in decomposing. They are food for other animals.
What are the characteristics of insects?
What colours are they? What body parts do they have? How many legs do they have? What body parts don't they have? Why do you think they are a certain way? How does this help/harm them? Abdomen, thorax, head, legs, antenna
What do insects eat?
Other insects, plants, leaves, nectar, fruits
Where do insects live?
On flowers, plants, in trees & bushes, near water, swamps, wood (logs), gardens, in our homes, hives, underground
The lifecycle of insects
Egg - Larva - Pupa - Adult insect
How can insects harm us?
Flies = spreading germs and bacteria ; Mosquitoes = cause us irritation when they bite us ; Termites = damage wood
