Separating Mixtures
what is a mixture
mixtures are two atoms that are not chemically bonded this includes things like brine (salty water).
a solution is a mixture that includes a solute (the solid in a solution) and a solvent (the liquid in a solution) soulutions allways have one liquid and one solid.
there are four types of mixtures solutions, suspensions, insoluble mixtures and saturated soulutions
ways of seperating mixtures
magnetisim can be used to remove magnetic solids from non magnetic solids
chromotography can be used to seperate the coulors from an ink
evaporation can be used to get a solute out of a solvent but unlike in dissalation you wont get the solvent back
sieving can be used to remove large solids from small solids
disalation can be used to remove a solute from a solvent an get the solvent back
filtering can be used to remove an insouluble solid from a liquid
chemichal and phisical changes
a phisical change is a change that can be undone such as melting chocolate or boiling water
a chemichal change is a change that cant be undone such as toasting bread or burning logs
a way to tell if an object will chemichaly or phisicly change is by heating it unp if you can change it back to what it origonaly was it is a phisical change if not it is a chemichal change
solubility
if a solid is soluble it will dissolve when you put it in water
if a solid is insoluble you will still have it in the of the container
if you want to check f something is soluble you should put it in water in a sealed container and shakeit about if it is soluble it will dissapear if it is insoluble it will still be there
