COOPER (1968)
Sees the nuclear family as an 'ideological conditioning device' which functions to ensure that children are socialised or brainwashed into being obedient and passively accepting their low status in capitalist society as exploited workers.
Ideological state apparatus - Means the social Institutions such as education, family, media, and the law, which were formally outside state control but which served to transmit the values of the state.
Superstructure - Means its culture, institution, political power structures, roles, rituals and state.
Conflict theory - Interested in how society's institutions may help to maintain the privileges of some groups and keep others in a subservient position.
ZARETSKY - Women's domestic work is unpaid which benefits capitalism. Housewives also reproduce the future labour force.

Believe that the family is a tool of capitalism and its main function is to maintain capitalism and reinforce social inequalities.
