User performs any underwriting action:
New
Renewal
Endorsement
Quotation Conversion
Policy/Endorsement/Renewal processing
Scenario 1 – New (Backdated Start Date)
“Policy Period From” auto-populated
User updates “Period From” within allowed backdate limit
System auto-sets:
Effective Start Date = Policy Period From Date
Effective Start Date field disabled (non-editable)
Backdate validation based on product Backdate Days
Scenario 2 – Renewal (Backdated Start Date)
Period From auto-set to (Previous Period To + 1 day)
Effective Start Date = Period From
Both fields are non-editable
Backdate validation applies to Renewal Transaction Date only
Scenario 3 – Endorsement (Backdated Start Date)
Period From auto-set → non-editable
Effective Start Date → editable
Backdate validation applies to Effective Start Date
Scenario 4 – Quotation → Policy Conversion (Backdating Rules)
System reads Quotation Period From date
Check Today vs Quotation Start Date difference
Scenario 5.1 – Backdating Allowed
Product config:
Backdating Allowed = Yes
Max Backdate Days = X
If difference ≤ Max Backdate Days:
Conversion allowed
Policy Effective Date = Quotation Start Date
Still enforce open financial period validation
Scenario 5.2 – Backdating Not Allowed
Product config:
Backdating Allowed = No
If quotation start date < today:
Block conversion
Validation message:
“Cannot proceed. The selected product does not allow backdating.”
Scenario – Financial Period Validation (ALL Underwriting Transactions)
Applies to:
Creating Policy
Editing Policy
Completing
Examining
Authorizing
Any transaction date/effective date check
If Effective Start Date OR Transaction Date falls in:
Closed Financial Period
Temporarily Closed Financial Period
Block action + Show:
“Action not allowed. The selected date falls within a closed financial period.”
Scenario – Previously Closed → Now Reopened Period
A period was previously “Temp Closed” but now reopened
User attempts to create a backdated policy using a date inside that period
System must not allow it
Show message:
“Backdated policy creation is not allowed in previously closed financial periods.”
