MIND MAP: PULLEYS AND TACKLE
🔵 1. Definition
Simple machine.
A grooved wheel that rotates on an axle.
Uses a rope, cable, or chain.
It is used to:
Change the direction of a force.
Reduce the effort needed to lift loads.
🔵 2. Fixed (Fixed Pulley)
It is attached to a fixed point.
It does not move when the load is moved.
It only changes the direction of the force.
It does not reduce the effort.
Example:
Flag on a flagpole.
Traditional well.
🔵 3. Movable (Movable Pulley)
It is attached to the load.
It moves with it.
It reduces the effort by half.
It requires more rope.
It is used to lift heavy objects with less force.
🔵 4. Pulley System
A system that combines fixed and movable pulleys.
Also called a block and tackle.
It significantly reduces the effort required.
The mechanical advantage depends on the number of pulleys.
It is used in:
Construction.
Cranes.
Mechanical workshops.
Lifting heavy loads.
