Chapter 13: Measure
Continuous versus discrete data
Data is either discrete or continuous
Continuous data is quantitative data and is measured in units
Teams should convert measurements to continuous data
Discrete data is referred to as qualitative data or attribute data
Collecting Data Samples
Simple random sampling
Equal chance that any item within the population will be chosen
Stratified sampling
When the population as a whole is divided
Sequential sampling
Involves selecting every X item
Non-random sampling
Should not be used when dealing with statistical analysis
Levels of Data
Data can be classified at four basic levels
Nominal
Considered to be the lowest data classification level
Ordinal
Considered to be a higher form of data than nominal
Interval
Provides numeric values that can be arranged in a logical order with meaning
Ratio
Considered to be the highest of the data classifications
