Chapter 11: Intro to DMAIC and DMADV
DMAIC
Phase 1 Define: identifying the problem (DMAIC)
DMADV: slight more rigid
identiying the critical inputs or causes (X), problem (Y), verifying causes, brainstorming and selecting solutions, implementing solutions, creating a control plan
Phase 2: Measure- teams use data to validate their assumptions about the process and problem (DMAIC)
Analyze phase
Measuring can be hard if data is not captured
Phase 3: hypotheses about casual relationships bw inputs/outputs bw X's and Y's (DMAIC)
flows into improve stage
Phase 4: improve or design ideas develop that began in Analyze phase during improve phase of project
DMADV project begin to diverge substantially from DMAIC projects
Phase 5: control or verify where loose ends are tied and project is tied to daily work
Difference: goals the team sets and outcome of completed project
Change management:closely-managed process of making changes in an organization
Define: Project charter and basic plan for work
Charter: synposis for project
SIPOC to understand the process
Measure
Tollgate Review
Analyze
teams perform detective work on the process
Improve: final solutions and begins to put in place
Control:
Final phase for six sigma team employing DMAIC process
creating foundation for process discipline
finalizing documents regarding improvement
metrics to evaluate process
building process management plan
Design
fourth phase of DMADV
replaces improve phase of DMAIC
DMADV
Design for Six Sigma or DFSS
DMADOV
Define, Measure , Analyze , Design, Optimize, Validate
develop a new product
Verify
new process transitioned out of project mode
