Interview my friends and family. This would give me an authentic, first hand look into what people think about short stories as a medium. Ask questions such as: do you find short stories more engaging compared to novels and why?
Create questionairres about short stories. For example, I can ask my audience what they do/don't like about short stories, what they would expect to find in a short story and what would keep their attention throughout the piece?
Find books that have a collection of short stories in. This would help me to see what short stories look like in indutry and what characteristics they have.
Use online sites to dive further into the key elements of a short story. What must they include and why? Always ask why!!!
Listen to podcasts about short stories or podcasts that tell short stories and see how it differs from printed, no audio short stories.
