Naivety and egoism - pretheoretic position of human motivation. The standpoint says that we are motivated to do something beside selfish egoism.
Strong egoism - says most of our ideas are our own interests. We follow moral laws to avoid punishment not for morality, and we donate to charity to boast to others.
We only display good deeds ot have some future rewards or some sense of validation from others. If there was no reward we would not be good and not care for certain issues.
Even if we are doing things for the sake of others these actions only occur because it is in the interest of our own survival and reproduction.
Weak egoism- A concept where people are not acting selflessly but are motivated by selfish internal passions as these pressures are internal rather than externa;l.
Abe lincoln once rode on a carriage with his friend, and stated that all human nature is fundamentally selfish. Once htey drive by htey see some pigs smoldering around cold mud, which appalled Lincoln.Lincoln hates this and decides that he would rather damage his clothes than leave the piglets to die. However his friend says he disproved his own interests.
When we act selflessly or morally, it is due to the fact that we would feel so guilty not acting that way that it minimized the action.

wE HAVE MOMENTS WHERE WE WANT TO DO SOMETHING BUT WE DO IT OUT OF PLEASURE. WE REFRAIN FROM DOING IT BECAUSE WE KNOW WHAT IS RIGHT TO DO IN THAT SITUATION.
To be selfless is to desire a persons sense of good. Butler said that an action is selfish as long as it has a selfish object.
Hume argues that humans contain a capacity for sympathy, which motivates us to help others, as we are motivated by the needs of our communties. However whilst it is against narrow egoism it is broad egoism, which allows us to avoid acting for our own needs.
As we freely help others we are indirectly attaining pleasure, rather than desiring pleasure

Peoples empathetic responses will vary depending on whether the risk is high or low especially in the case of COVID 19.
However in the case of COVID 19 the self occurs as the benefits of being empathetic will benefit the person as well.
There isa partnership where someone has the ability to care for others, and when the person who is aware of the benefits of being empathic can be a variable that renders the best effects.
Due to the nature of the pandemic we unknowingly manage to save not only other people but ourselves as well.

When we talk about empathy is often connected with distress. When htey observe a distress or a concern with how someone is feeling upset. However you can empathize with someone even when they are happy.
There are two forces at play as it suspends your empathy for others and in the case of COVID 19 people are in a sense of fight or flight.
The message also conveys to the doer the what it can be the benefits of acting compassionately to others during a time of crisis.
