Results
Key data, often in figures or tables
Is the data collected appropriate to answer the research question?
What the authors found
Discussion
Clearly answers the question posed in the introduction
Explains how the results support the conclusions
Do I understand and believe the author's claims?
Methods
Can be difficult to read due to technical language and details
What experiments were done
Abstract
The purpose of the study (why)
Results (what they found)
Methodology (how)
Conclusion (what it means)
Is this article worth reading?
Relevance Check: After each section, ask if the article is relevant enough to your assignment to keep reading
Finding the Main Points
Key Locations: Look at the title, abstract, keywords, the figure and table titles, and the first or last sentences of the introduction
Clue Phrases: Watch for phrases like "we hypothesize that," "we propose," or "we introduce"
How to Take Effective Notes
Goal: Organizing research saves time and prevents you from having to reread the same articles repeatedly
