Definition
CRISPR is a gene-editing technology that allows scientists to precisely change DNA in living organisms.CRISPR stands for Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats. It was originally discovered in bacteria, which use it as a natural defense system against viruses. When a virus attacks, bacteria store pieces of the virus’s DNA. If the virus attacks again, the bacteria use CRISPR to recognize and cut the virus DNA, stopping the infection.
