EVALUATIONS
- students as raters provided some bias, often more egalitarian w view compared to general population
- BSRI piloted w 1000 students and results corresponded w pptps. own description of gender identity giving BSRI validity
- also follow up test similar results- high test-retest validity
- androgyny linked with good psychological wellbeing HOWEVER in western culture, masculine traits are favourable (ADAMS AND SHERER), inadequate account of social/cultural context
- oversimplifies complex concept, too complex for reduction to a simple score, alternative such as personal attributes questionnaire which measures expressive and instrumental roles
- GOLOMBOK AND FIVUSH claim gender identity much more global than suggested
- cultural and historical bias, scale made up of stereotypical ideas of masculinity and femininity that could be outdated- also western bias
