Content in PMPs
Digital
Electronic Photo Album
Advantages: Allows you to access infinite amounts of images at will to display them on your own picture frame, this is great and a more cost-effective version of typical picture frames as you can have any image you wish on them without having to get the images printed.
Disadvantages: There is a huge risk of possible data loss, this is when all data (pictures) are removed entirely and cannot be restored. There can also be less emotional connection towards the images as they are digital and not physical which can be seen as a downside.
Potential Content: They will usually hold many images that have been downloaded to them, this may include family photos, personal memories and many more making it an extremely personal piece. They can have a near-infinite storage of images within themselves.
Video show reel
Potential content: They are usually used to show someone's best work all in a short 60-90 second video, it can also have content such as your hobbies and interests to help the watcher understand more about you as a person.
Advantages: Can be used as a personal digital resume for employers, this can help you get a job or even can be used to show your interests to friends and family, such as vacation locations, etc.
Disadvantages: It can have an immediate impact on the observer as a well-made reel can show your skills and knowledge, you can also control what you include within it which makes sure all the work you want to promote is indeed promoted rather than skipped.
Social Media Profile
Potential Content: This can involve images, videos or texts about how your personal life is, your interests or even jobs you wish to apply for, social media is one of the strongest ways to get your point across as well as keeping contact with many other people around you.
Advantages: It can be a form of cheap marketing, can show people your daily activities and keep up with your friends and family in their own lives. It is also a great way to connect and meet new people.
Disadvantages: Can easily be ‘stalked’ by strangers and can be dangerous to have due to personal and private information which you are posting being able to be accessed by almost anyone, it also has limited customizability, this stops your from personalizing it fully.
Blog
Potential Content: Blogs can be focused on many different topics, whether its someone's personal interests such as cars, sports, planes, etc. Or even someone's life experiences. This is great as it truly has endless topics it can be focuses and built around.
Advantages: Blogging is beneficial as it helps bring an audience together over a specified subject. This is great as you can connect with the audience over similar interests. It also provides a sense of ownership as you own the website and can optimize it to your own standards whereas a social media platform always has limitations which can be seen as an issue.
Disadvantages: The weaknesses of blogging are that it can be incredibly time consuming to set up on top of that it can take an even longer time to build up popularity, which can be seen as a huge negative to some people. It can also generate an extremely inconsistent income, meaning if you ever wanted it to be a main source of income, it would be nearly impossible.
Physical
CV
Potential Content: Usually involves your personal interests and hobbies, as well as your past employment history. It shows how long you have worked as specific places you have worked at, the skills you have learned and sometimes your education levels.
Advantages: Can be incredibly efficient at finding employers, this is because they can be sent within seconds allowing you to apply for multiple places within seconds, much faster than the traditional method of being there physically.
Disadvantages: Due to CVs usually holding personal data and information, if a data breach were to happen, your personal data could be accessed with ease. This is a threat towards your safety and privacy. There are also usually significantly more digital applications than physical, which reduces your opportunities of employment significantly.
