NEP
Outcome: Rapid economic recovery, food shortages ended, but created new internal party debates over capitalism's return, eventually replaced by Stalin's forced collectivization
5 year plan
Advantages = +rapid industrilisation, electricity and coal production boomed/ +changed the ussr to be less dependent on agriculture and challenge the west's economic output/ +education and litracy rates rise
Disadvantages = -shortages due to collectivisation led to widespread famine/ -1st 5yr plan led to cut in consumer goods and rapidly growing cities led to poor quality of life/ -unrealistic targets and quotas led to waste or chaos
1st = focused on rapid development of industry. outcome was Massive growth in heavy industry, creation of new industrial centers like Magnitogorsk, but severe neglect of consumer goods, leading to poor living standards and famine (Holodomor in Ukraine).
2nd = focused on training and consumer goods to maximise quality of life. rise of stakhnovite movement and heavy industry remained dominant however quality of life still lagged behind
3rd = focused on militarizing to prepare for war and continuing the industrial push. ultimately failed due to interruption of ww2 and the lack of emphasis on living standards
