Factors that contribute to Climate Change
Human Activities - Human actions are the main drivers of climate change because they release large amounts of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere and reduce Earth’s ability to absorb them.
Burning Fossil Fuels - Using coal, oil, and gas for energy releases carbon dioxide, a major greenhouse gas.
Transportation - Cars, trucks, ships, and planes release CO₂ from fuel combustion.
Power Plants - Many power plants burn coal or gas to produce electricity, releasing CO2
Factories - Industrial machines burn fossil fuels and emit CO2
Industrial processes - Some manufacturing methods release greenhouse gases directly.
Cement production - Produces large amounts of carbon dioxide during chemical reactions.
Chemical manufacturing - Releases greenhouse gases during production.
Deforestation - Cutting down forests reduces the number of trees that absorb carbon dioxide, increasing CO₂ levels in the air.
Fewer trees to absorb CO2
Greenhouse Gases
Carbon dioxide
Methane
Nitrous oxide
Trapping heat in the atmosphere
Carbon Dioxide
Land Use Changes - Changes to natural land affect how much carbon the Earth can store.
Urbanization - Replaces forests and grasslands with buildings and roads, reducing carbon absorption.
Deforestation - Removes trees that absorb carbon dioxide.
Loss of wetlands - Wetlands store carbon, so losing them increases greenhouse gas levels.
Soil degradation - Damaged soil releases stored carbon and reduces plant growth.
Agriculture and food production - Farming practices contribute to climate change by producing greenhouse gases and altering land use.
Livestock farming
Cows produce methane
Fertilizers
Release nitrous oxide
Large scale farming - Uses heavy machinery and chemicals that increase greenhouse gas emissions.
Increases greenhouse gas emissions
Cleared land for farming
Deforestation
