  - - - However, these plant-wide simulators commonly use 1d models to represent the secondary clarifier, which fails to consider the internal geoemtries effect on the Secondary clarifier performance. They fail to capture hydraulic failures resulting from bad designs.
        
        Thus, researchers have moved to using CFD as the most trustworthy method for evaluating different SC designs before implementation, capturing hydraulic failures in designs that dont match expected capacity and fixing their design and upgrading the deisgns where system capcity is expected to increase due to the increased population.

        this Open-loop cfd simulation of sc separate from the wwtp does not enforce plant-wide mass balance closure/ (can i use consistency? what other words can i use?). The activated sludge bioreactors need specific concentration of the return activated sludge to maintiain the prescribed MLSS bc at the secondary clarifier inlet. Thus assuming the MLSS, without considering the effect of the predicted return activated sludge on the bioreators reactions and the new resulting MLSS means the evaluation of the sc is using unrealistic inlet loadings.
        
        However, this ignores the two-way coupling nature between the secondary clarifier and the activated sludge bioreactors. Not only does the SC provide MLSS to the SC clarifier but the SC recycles return activated sludge to the bioreactors.
