Neutrality or War
War
This is a cartoon and story made to make Germans look bad and violent. They thought of Germans as harming civilians.
Shooting Down Ships
Germany took to the practice of shooting down or sinking ships flying the colors of Great Britain or any of their allies. W-E are allies with Great Britain, and this proves to be a little problematic. What if they go for ours next?
The British, as a result of the German attacks, took to blockading as to harm the Germans. In doing so, this also stopped American processes that would help us and our commerce. By not going to war, we would continue to allow this to happen.
Allies
We had many allies in Europe, and most of them were involved in the war. If Germany is attacking our allies, don't our treaties say we need to intervene?
The U-Boat attacks on Americans were, in many eyes, a justified cause for war. Most people saw them as unjust and unfair, as we hadn't really done anything yet. We were being hit and struggling when we weren't even in the war yet.
Neutrality

-
The fear was that, in losing their neutrality by entering the war, it would change the United States in ways that may not be solely beneficial.
The state of not supporting or helping either side in a conflict, disagreement, etc.; impartiality
-
Democracy
The idea in document 13 is that those who are drafted into the war don't have a choice. They didn't choose to start the war, and it goes against our fundamental ideas of democracy to force others into a war they didn't choose to start.
The US's View
A Country of Immigrants
Many in the U.S. felt the need to go to war, especially with their attachments to the European countries that they had come from.
U.S. Deaths
During the war, U.S. ships filled with citizens were shot down. There were mixed reactions, but the outrage made many believe that this was a valid reason to go to war.
Our View
Neutrality
Neutrality is good for America. If we went into this war, which we had no part in the start of, it would only serve to demolish our resources and possibly endanger us. Entering a war without proper reason is dangerous to us and the liberties that we stand for.
