The Actors of the Immune Response
Cells
Leukocyte (WBCs)
Granulocyte
-cells that have granules in their cytoplasm
-they have bilobed/ multilobed nucleus
they are mostly phagocytic
they attack the non-self without identifying it
Agranulocyte
cells that dont have granules in their cytoplasm -they are 2 types
Lymphocyte (B/T):- B secretes antibodies - T kills infected cells and activate other immune cells
Monocyte: phagocytic and antigen representing cell
Molecules
The Antibodies
they are Y shaped molecules - they bind to antigens by antigen binding site - antibodies only bind to the antigen, they don't eliminate the virus
Antigens
They are:
Soluble: molecules that are found free in a liquid
Cellular: molecules that are found on the surface of a cell
Organs of the Immune System/ Lymphoid Organs
Primary
Bone Marrow
Thymus
Secondary
Spleen
Lymph Nodes
Lymphatic Vessels
Role: storage and circulation of immune cells
