- - - - Schedule follow-up dental appointment for after discharge
- - - - "Scrub the hub" of the central line for at least 15 seconds with alcohol or chlorhexidine wipe when accessing catheter
      - Catheter should be flushed with 10 mL of saline daily
      - Change CHG impregnanted dressing every week or when soiled- Sterile Dressing Change
      - Monitor insertion site for any signs of infection or for fever. Go to ER if present.
      - Daily full body Chlorohexidine washes for Carlos
- - - - Use soft or extra-soft toothbrush or use foam mouth swabs if brushing is painful
      - Replace toothbrush every 1-2 months
      - Brush teeth 2-3x day with fluoride toothpaste
      - Use mouth rinse without alcohol or hydrogen peroxide to prevent drying the oral mucosa
      - Avoid flossing and hard foods if platelets are low due to bleeding risk
    - - Consult with the oncology team before dental procedures
        
        Contact oncology team immediately for fever or signs of systemic infection
        
        Communicate oral infections risks to oncology and nursing
        
        Contact dental team for worsening mouth sores, oral pain preventing eating and drinking, oral bleeding that will not stop, and white patches that do not wipe off (possible fungal infection)
      - Align oral care instructions with discharge instructions
      - Communicate with pharmacy about oral rinses and pain control
    - - Use salt and baking soda rinse (1/2 tsp salt + 1/2 tsp baking soda in 1 cup water) as needed to soothe oral pain
      - Encourage frequent sips of water and lip balm to prevent dry mouth and lips
    - - Check the mouth daily for white patches, redness or swelling, and sores or ulcers
