In 1977, the Panama Canal Treaty was signed by U.S President Jimmy Carter. This canal helped the U.S military by providing a quicker route from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic in order to have a faster source of trading materials.

Spheres of Influence is when an outside power claims the rights and privileges over another area for the purpose of trade, investment, or military control. This form of imperialism tends to occur in land boarded by another colony and is formed by a treaty.
The United States, Great Britain, France, Germany, add Russia made controlled China as a Spheres of Influence relationship after 1899.

This represents the relationship between China and imperialists at the time of imperialism and how leaders would fight with each other just to gain more land and power.
Colonies were formed by a powerful nation that initiated its own government in order to maintain control over surrounding territories. Most times foreign officials would come into the territories in order to report back to their "Mother Country"
Through 1830-1903 France took over Algeria and expanded into Africa and Asia. Great Britain however had full control over the 13 colonies in North America.
