Working towards a sustainable future
Destroying the planet
Deforestation
- deforestation continues to be huge problem as around 15 billion tress are cut down annually across the world
lack of habitat for animals
- as more and more woodland is destroyed an increasing number of species find themselves without a home
I could design homes for animals - could be specifically designed to encourage wildlife in urban areas
This could be a bird house
Could be a place for bees as they are crucial to the food supply
I could design gardens/ green spaces in cities which are designed to encourage biodiversity
I could look at what plants would encourage animals to live the the most
Pollution
Littering - I could design a bin which would encourage people to not leave there rubbish around
Light pollution
I could design a streetlamp that limited light pollution as much as possible
Overconsumption
- as the population rises overconsumption is becoming an increasingly bigger problem
Single use plastics
- I could design packaging as an alternative to single use plastics which could significantly reduce the amount of plastic products being consumed and disregarded
I could design packaging for fruit in supermarkets made from new materials which are sustainable
I could design cutlery / straws / food containers which where made from sustainable materials and were also functional and aesthetic
Greater demand for fuel
I could design a bus station or train station which could be beautiful to encourage people to use public transport more

the Bosco vertical in Milan is a great example of how design can help the environment - I would be inspired by the use of plants which will intake carbon dioxide
