Providing a safe and comfortable home
Burglary and crime
- home buglary rates have fallen in recent times however it still remins a problem with most incidents occuring through doors and ground floor windows and it often inloves the theft of electonics, jelwery and money
Parcel theft
£666.5 million worth of parcels stolen in the last 12 months
I could design a parcel box
This could involves a self locking mechanism and also making something which was both functional and aesthetic
For example it could double box and a planter
I could look into giving it an alarm similar to car alarms to deter thieves
Homelessness
- Homelessness is a big problem in the UK due to factors such as a sever lack of affordable housing - over 300,00 homeless people sleeping rough each day in the UK
Social housing - design cost effective social housing which could be quick to construct and offer residents a better quality of life
Focus on the issue in UK / Newcastle
affordable housing
I could design small housing units which could be focused on people who struggle to afford normal houses
I could design
communal shelters in cities for homeless people which are very simple and cheap but at least shield people from the worst of the wind and rain
Storage in small spaces
- A lot of people would benefit massively from having well designed storage specifically for compact spaces as people buy more than they ever have before and the cost of living crisis means a lot of people are living in small houses
Lack of storage in small flats
Potential client could a be resident of a small flat
Potential client could be teenagers with their own room
Multi use storage spaces
Bed with built in storage
Build on already made products
Table with built in storage
fold out / collapsible table
Make use of vertical sptace
Design inspiration
Modernist design could be good for creating simpler and functional designs
Brutalist design could be used for the homeless shelter
Pets - domesticated animals ae often end up being bored and unhappy especially when they are living in confined spaces
Dogs often get overstimulated
Pet birds are in small cages
Cats end up ripping people's furniture
