Scene 3: The climax
Iago uses Othello's own insecurities in order to plant a seed of doubt. Othello, fallen into a state of hysteria, vows to murder Cassio and Desdemona. Iago is promoted from ancient to lieutenant, replacing Cassio (given the latter's drunken brawl in act 2 scene 3)
Villain, be sure thou prove my love a whore; / Be sure of it. Give me the ocular proof, / Or, by the worth of mine eternal soul / Thou hadst been better have been born a dog / Than answer my waked wrath!
