      - Roderigo catches Brabantio's attention
        
        "What, ho Brabantio! Signior Brabantio, ho!" (Line 82)
      - Roderigo and Iago call Brabantio in the middle of the night, with the former of the two telling him that his daughter married Othello in secret. Brabantio, feeling betrayed, calls for a meeting. Iago doesn't attend to not seem suspicious
    - - Othello is told to go to a meeting with the Duke on an urgent matter. Iago tells Othello of Brabantio's words against him.
        
        "I lack iniquity / Sometimes to do me service" (line 3)
    - - Othello, the Duke of Venice, Brabantio meet. Othello is sent to Cyprus immediately to help defeat the Ottoman forces, whilst Brabantio enters and curses Othello in using "witchcraft". Othello doesn't deny it, and says that his stories were the only witchcraft he used. Desdemona enters. Brabantio reluctantly accepts Othello's marriage. He warns him
        
        "Look to her, Moor, if thou hast eyes to see. / She has deceived her father, and may thee" (Line 319-320)
      - Good scene for critiquing culture values of patriarchy: Desdemona eloped because of how imprisoned she felt in her father's clutches
      - Roderigo is in pain, since he is infatuated with Desdemona. (This allows Iago to manipulate him). He even considers suicide. Iago plans to use Roderigo for money, urging him to sell what he has. Iago confesses that he despises the Moor
        
        "I will incontinently drown myself" (Line 332)
        
        "Thus do I ever make my fool my purse, / For I mine own gained knowledge should profane / If I would time expend with such a snipe / But for my sport and profit" (Line
  - - - Iago uses Othello's own insecurities in order to plant a seed of doubt. Othello, fallen into a state of hysteria, vows to murder Cassio and Desdemona. Iago is promoted from ancient to lieutenant, replacing Cassio (given the latter's drunken brawl in act 2 scene 3)
        
        Villain, be sure thou prove my love a whore; / Be sure of it. Give me the ocular proof, / Or, by the worth of mine eternal soul / Thou hadst been better have been born a dog / Than answer my waked wrath!
