Alice Guy-Blanché's film, Falling Leaves (1912), remains a beautiful exploration of both childlike wonder, and childlike sadness. The leaves, for such a direct metaphor, stand as a powerful one for how beautifully photographed its effects are. It is just one of her many great conceptual effect films, but its imagery and dreamlike story make it one to remember.
