        “If feminist political practices do not acknowledge transnational cultural flows, feminist movements will fail to understand the material conditions that structure women’s lives in diverse locations. If feminist movements cannot understand the dynamics of these material conditions, they will be unable to construct an effective opposition to current economic and cultural hegemonies that are taking new global forms. Without an analysis of transnational scattered hegemonies that reveal themselves in gender relations, feminist movements will remain isolated and prone to reproducing the universalizing gestures of dominant Western cultures.” (Kaplan and Grewal 17).
        
        This is important to this question because we must be aware of the way in Western culture claims all authority, even in global notions, in which they o not apply. In forming a field it must be Transnational and center the imporantance of the intersectionality of the global world and how that implicates feminist theory.
- - - - Outside Example
        When I think of understanding this field, I think of how Feminism is sensational. In my experience learning Feminist Theory, I have related to the world around me differently. When I was first introduced to Foucault and learned about how disease-based quarantine has implicated security systems today, and led to ultimate surveillance over society. I was psychologically rewritten in the sense that I now would interact with society in a more knowledgeable manner. I beelive that as A field that has such an influence on its scholars because of the pieces it pulls together that are otherwise hidden requires critique and keen observation on the feminist theory that it produces.
        
        Close Reading
        We can appreciate, then, how the sensations that lead us to feminism are often the very same sensations that follow being a feminist. Through feminism you make sense of wrongs; you realize that you are not in the wrong. But when you speak of something as being wrong, you end up being in the wrong all over again. The sensation of being wronged can thus end up magnified: you feel wronged by being perceived as in the wrong just for pointing out something is wrong…If feminism allows us to redirect our emotions toward different objects, our emotions can become their objects…and then of course the objects we are objecting to are reaffirmed as inappropriate objects for critique or complaint. (Sara Ahmed 39)
        
        If feminism is sensational, that means that this field is affective. It is sensational because it analyzes the visceral lived experiences of bodies implicated by systemic and epistemic violence. A field that is as affective as feminist theory requires a level of delicacy and critique because lives are at stake.
