It consisted of 8 parts which were:
Caregiver and infant enter the room. Observer leaves. Infant is encouraged to explore. (Baseline behaviour)
2 – Stranger enters and interacts with caregiver, then infant this Tests infant’s reaction to unfamiliar people.
3 – Caregiver leaves infant with the stranger. First separation. Tests separation anxiety.
4 – Caregiver returns; stranger leaves.First reunion. Crucial for judging attachment quality.
5 – Caregiver leaves infant completely alone Second, more stressful separation.
6 – Stranger returns.Tests how infant reacts to comfort from a non-caregiver.
7 – Caregiver returns again. Second reunion. Most important data for classifying attachment
8 – Study ends. Infant is reunited and calmed.
