Muhammad- Born in 570 CE in Mecca. Started hearing voices during his meditation and deduced it was the Angel Gabriel telling him to "recite." He believed Allah, the God of his tribe, was the one and only God.
Theocracy- A system where where a deity or deities are considered supreme. Muhammad fled his town of Mecca to Yathrib (hijra) to try his theocracy experiment where it was successful. He returned to Mecca and established it as the center of Islam.

Mecca- Where Muhammad was from. Mecca is now considered Islams holiest city when before it was Jerusalem. Muhammad established it as such after his journey to Yahtrib was successful.
Medina- Previously named Yathrib (hijra), this town is where Muhammad fled to to escape persecution. It is where he created a theocracy and created the Constitution of Medina to govern those who lived there.
Reflection Question: While making this Mind Map the most important thing I learned was that Ramadan is both a month and a holiday. I never realized that Ramadan refers to the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, I just always thought it was simply a religious holiday. I also learned that Mecca is considered Islams holiest city and followers of this religion have to travel there at least once in their lifetime if they're physically and financially able to. I think this is a really cool tradition and a way for people of the same faith from all corners of the world to be able to come together.
