Reserviors & Carriers
-
Passive= Not infected, Active=Infected, Asymptomatic= shows no signs or symptoms
Reservior: site where pathogens live, Ex: soil/water, blue jay and monkeys
Modes of Transmission
Indirect Contact: transmission via formites (nonliving objects)- ex: doorknobs, towels, syringes
Vehicle Transmission: food, water and air act as vehicles, sneeze guards prevent contamination of food
DIrect Contact: vertical- mother to child, horizontal- sexual contact, droplets- droplets travel less than one meter
Vector Transmission: mechanicla vector- carries pathogen on body, not as in infection. biological vector- becomes a pathogen and transmits it Ex: mosquitoes, ticks, fleas, mites (chiggers)
