Equanimity
Gratitude: Sometimes I get too busy yearning for things that I do not have but then upon hearing other stories or rethinking about what I have I realize there's so much that I should be grateful for.
Humility: Through the recent achievements, I thought this is a great opportunity for me to train myself to be more humble.
Resilience: How to persevere and how to push through so that I could one day succeed in the goals that I set out to achieve.
Serenity: I noticed a short pause or a break from my daily routines such as a run in the forest as required in the last assignment could help ease my mind and clear some negative thoughts out and start my week fresh.
Harmony: I'm learning to accept that not everyone matches my pace and that harmony grows through understanding and patience, not control.
Forgiveness: Letting go doesn't mean forgetting, it's more about accepting that everyone is still learning.
Attainment: Previously it was really just achieving some set goals only to meet the expectations. I am learning that attainment could be simply about the process that shaped me along the way instead of the end goal.
Appreciation: I started to pay more attention to these moments especially when we're connecting with one another through our personal stories and I felt a deeper sense of appreciation for the people around me.
Joy: I want to move forward being more intentional about these small acts of joy since most often the smallest gestures are the ones that create the most warmth.
Listening: Recently, I’ve tried to listen more instead of speaking more, so this time in the toy store I tried to actively listen to what other people had to say. From this, not only do you learn new things from them, but you also connect with them through similar experiences you've had.
Inclusivity: I noticed there was a person particularly quiet at the beginning when we were all sharing our stories. So I invited the person into the chat by asking the person follow up questions. The person had a lot to share each time I asked a question.
Calibration: I usually go fast into the story. I want to confirm the vibe first so that I can match the depth based on the energy in the room without over explaining. This feels more respectful and can make my point land across more clearly.
Playfulness: Being in a toy room made me notice how quickly joy opens people up. This lightens up the mood instantly from the usual overbearing weight of everything else that we have to carry on our shoulders.
Creative practices: Creativity comes in many forms such as story weaving in our AGO visit really made our experience more memorable and creative by having narratives that connected to the works of renowned artists.
Inner presence: When I was looking at the paintings, I became more attentive to details and told myself to be present in the moment. I just closed my eyes and let my thoughts carry me away.
In-depth preparation: Advanced preparation especially before going to a place with meaningful content can significantly increase the quality of the experience.
Rhythm: Rhythm reminds me that equanimity doesn't need to have stillness completely. When I'm overwhelmed I return to a simple rhythm, from walking to listening to music. It helps me reset and balance things again.
Tradition: remind me that people before me have navigated the difficulties I'm facing or even perhaps more and found their own steadiness despite all the challenges and hardships.
Heritage: Heritage often provides stories and values I inherit. Knowing where all my values come from gives me clarity in the origin and purpose.
Community: Finally, I added community because equanimity isn't just a solo project on my own. It is typically strengthened by the people around me, from the friends who listen and to the mentors who guide me when in need.
Groundedness: This is the peaceful and serene feeling I get even as things around me are ever changing and shifting in all directions. It's knowing what you value and coming back to it when you feel stressed or overwhelmed.
Non-reactivity: I let the first wave of emotion pass before I act. I feel like this is the core part of equity where you still feel things deeply but my actions are not dictated by my first impulse.
Steady presence: The kind of person I want to become is how I can be there for others even in the midst of the storms that are going on either in their life or even in their mind. I want to be that calming figure that everyone else can rely on.
Spaciousness: From our team adventures, spaciousness might look like letting someone finish their story and then responding and thoughtfully instead of rushing to agree, disagree, or fix it.
