        E.g. Nitric acid + sodium carbonate → sodium nitrate + water + carbon dioxide

        E.g. Sulfuric acid + magnesium → magnesium sulfate + hydrogen

        Why?
        
        Ans: acid + base/alkali = neutralisation reaction
        
        salt + water = neutral (pH 7)
        
        E.g. Nitric acid + calcium oxide → calcium nitrate(salt) + water

      - slippery or soapy feel
      - react with acid to produce salt and water
      - bitter taste
- - - - They change colours when they come into contact with acids or alkalis
